Long live the King! In anticipation of the Coronation of King Charles III, a remarkable range of coins has launched and launched with a bang.
The first sell-out was achieved within 100 minutes of issue, with the Silver Mint Masters Set selling out its entire run of 100 before most of us even knew about it.
The Coronation will be the celebration of a lifetime with a bank holiday weekend, “Best of British” BBQ, star-studded concert and street parties across the nation.
And coin collectors don’t need telling twice how important this event is. The first Coronation for 70 years. It’s going to be massive.
It needs a coin range to match and collectors will not be disappointed. Here is a selection of the coins already announced for the event.
The Silver £5 with Gold-plated Cypher
Limited to 2,023, the Silver Proof £5 from Jersey carries the cypher of King Charles III. That cypher has been luxuriously plated in 24 Carat Gold.
The First-Strike Silver £5 Set
Exclusively available to CPM Prestige Gold & Silver Coins, the first 150 of these stunning Proof £5 coin sets were pulled out at the Mints to form the “First-Strike” Coronation Set.
The coins, struck from fine Silver by Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, each feature a key element of the Coronation plated in 24 Carat Gold.
You have the King’s cypher, the Coronation Carriage and the St Edward’s Crown.
The Double-Thickness Silver £5
Another exclusive for CPM clients, this Piedfort Silver Proof £5 is so much more scarce than the standard Silver £5.
Carrying the same gold-plated cypher design, the double-thickness coin is limited to just 195 – that’s less than 10% of the edition limit of the standard Silver £5.
The “Large Canvas” Silver 5oz
Speaking of edition limits… You’ll be doing well to find an affordable option with an edition limit lower than this.
Just 210 Silver 5oz coins have been announced for the Coronation.
Again, the focus is the gold-plated cypher, but the coin’s large 65mm diameter allows a canvas to really show off the stunning design, which also feature a crown and acanthus leaves.
This is just a small selection of the coins launched for the Coronation. There are gold options, which are available by enquiry only and more will be announced as we get closer to the day itself.
One thing is for certain, collectors recognise the sheer importance of the event and the coins released to celebrate His Majesty’s Coronation.
I’m sure these coins will become treasured pieces in any collection which will certainly be passed down for generations to enjoy.
The good news is, if you’re quick, you can get your hands on one of the new Coronation coins, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see these sell out soon. You’ll have to act fast to secure them for your collection.
