One coin has dominated discussion over the last few months, probably more than any other coin I can remember.
And those discussions are not just limited to coin collecting circles and online forums. This has been headline news.
Now it’s here. Let me explain why I think this is such an important coin now and for the generations that follow.
I’m talking, of course, about the Official UK BREXIT 50p coin.
The coin of a generation
I’m struggling to think of a coin that has attracted the interest of an entire nation – and beyond.
Perhaps the Churchill Crown in 1965?
Almost 20 million of those were released to the public.
That’s why my initial thought on the Silver BREXIT 50p edition limit was that they had undercooked it.
Just 47,000 will ever be available. Can that be enough for such a momentous event for our country and one that means so, so much to so many people?
A real-time commemorative
The majority of commemorative coins we see are marking an anniversary of something that happened decades or even centuries ago – the 75th anniversary of VE Day, the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s birth.
It’s very rare that we actually commemorate something in the moment.
By the time you read this, it wouldn’t surprise me if all 47,000 Silver Proof 50p coins were already reserved.
If you’re interested…
I currently have a very limited stock of the BREXIT Silver Proof 50p coin available.
